Our Mission

Built for the Man
in the Arena

You have just stepped out of high school into the University and joined a fraternity. The uncertainty is real and so is the excitement. This is the next stage of the rite of passage in your masculinity.

To learn to call out your man courage over your anxiety and be involved with your chapter, make lifetime friendships with men from a variety of backgrounds different from you, be challenged to move from boyhood to manhood, grow in being the snack with those ladies, and choosing to step up and lead.

Leadership always starts with learning how to lead and conquer yourself. If you can’t lead yourself, why would anyone want to follow you?

The Man Behind
the Warrior

John Hatfield is a podcast host, speaker, and men’s advocate on a mission to change the conversation around male anxiety. He built the Anxious Warrior Podcast after living through the exact experience his audience faces — walking out of college into the real world carrying anxiety he didn’t have a name for, surrounded by men who all looked like they had it figured out.

What John discovered — and what he now teaches — is that the anxiety isn’t the enemy. It’s the signal. The men who learn to carry it, name it, and use it are the ones who become who they were made to be. That’s the conversation he’s been having on stage and on mic ever since.

Fraternity Leadership & Formation

John focuses on male anxiety and what it means to lead with masculine power, value honesty and integrity, do what is right in your decisions, and make lifetime brothers who sharpen each other to become the best version of themselves.

John has a graduate degree with an emphasis in leadership and sports psychotherapy, and has also served as a wrestling and swim coach. For 30 years, he has worked with fraternity men, impacting chapter culture, assisting exec and officers as they lead and influence, and revamping recruitment as one of the most important distinctions for a chapter.

John was on FSL staff at Kansas State University, working with fraternities that were struggling and later serving as Interim Director. He served on staff with Sigma Alpha Epsilon on the Chapter Expansion team as well as the Risk Management team, and he is also on staff as the leadership consultant for Beta Sigma Psi.

John has spoken at AFVL many times and for a variety of fraternities, including FIJI, Kappa Sigma, Delta Sigma Psi, Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, Alpha Gamma Rho, FarmHouse, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Beta Theta Pi, to name a few. What John Believes
  • Anxiety is not a weakness — it’s a signal that you care enough to fight.
  • Every man has a warrior inside him. Most just haven’t been shown how to find him.
  • Real strength is built through honesty, discipline, and brotherhood — not performance.
  • The conversation men need most is the one nobody is having out loud.

◆ The Anxious Warrior Podcast
What We Stand For

The Code of the
Anxious Warrior

Four principles that every man who listens to this podcast lives by. Not rules — a way of being.

01
Authenticity
Own your reality. No performance, no pretending. The warrior starts with the truth of where he actually is.
02
Courage
Courage is not the absence of fear — it's taking the next step while fear is present. That's the warrior's move.
03
Discipline
Motivation fades. Discipline is the system that keeps you moving when the feeling is gone. Build the habit, become the man.
04
Brotherhood
No man wins alone. The warrior builds a tribe of men who sharpen each other, hold each other accountable, and refuse to let each other quit.
